Meizhou which is located in the northeast of Guangdong Province with a total area of 16,000 square kilometers and with a population of 5.14 million has 8 counties (cities) and districts under its jurisdiction. Being the hometown of Marshal Ye Jianying and Lee Kuanyew, the former Prime Minister of Singapore, it boasts the national historical and cultural city, excellent tourism city in China, China's top ten distinctive leisure city, national sanitary city and the most popular destination for self-driving tour in Guangdong.

With superior regional location, Meizhou is the regional central city in the northeastern of Guangdong Province. Situated at the junction of Guangdong, Jiangxi and Fujian provinces, Meizhou is an important portal connecting the coastal cities of Guangdong with the inland hinterland with south of Jiangxi in its north neighborhood, east of Fujian in its east neighborhood, Jieyang, Chaoshan in its south neighborhood and Pearl River Delta in its west neighborhood, opposite to the economic zone on the west coast of the Taiwan Straits. With three highways, two national highways, two railways and an airport in Mei County, it is a national transportation hub. Jieyang Chaoshan International Airport and the Jieyang station for Xiamen-Shenzhen high speed railway (connecting Xiamen and Shenzhen) are only 1.5 hours' drive away from Meizhou urban area and only half an hour's drive away from Fengshun, a livable city with hot spring.With the construction of Guangzhou-Meizhou-Shantou high-speed railway been included in the national "The Twelveth Five-Year " plan, Meizhou will completely enter into the new era of high-speed railway, after the operation of which, it is about 1.5 hours from Meizhou to Guangzhou and Shenzhen. The expressway from Shejiang to Huayang, which connects Guangzhou-Heyuan expressway, is planned for its construction, and it will only take about 3 hours from Meizhou to Guangzhou after its open. Much more rapid railways and highways are also planned to be built. In the next five years, the advanced three-dimensional transportation network will be fully connected with the Pearl River Delta, the economic zone on the west coast of the Taiwan Straits and Yangtze River Delta, which will completely reduce the temporal and spatial distance from Meizhou to domestic and foreign metropolitans.

    As a remarkable place producing outstanding people, Meizhou is known as “Capital of Hakka in the World". With a long history and with a thousand year profound humanity accumulation of Hakka heritage, it is both the final settlement place for the Hakka moving to the south and the main departure place for Hakka to spread among the world since the Ming and Qing dynasties .And at the same time, it is the world's most representative Hakka community and the spiritual home of the Hakka in the world.
